Isaiah 55 : 1-13

“Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live …..” -Isaiah 55:3

Isaiah 55 holds out invitations with the use of the word, “Come!” Addressed primarily to a people who had been scattered from their nation, the common call to all, is to return to God and seek Him. Verse 6 says, “Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.” While the invitation is yet open, one may as well pay attention and respond!

From our reading today, we can look into three aspects we need to pay real attention to:

Pursuit: The wrong pursuit in life can land you in being dissatisfied and longing for more (which is elusive), until you find that which truly satisfies. Vs2: “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy?” The call here is to come and freely partake of the water and the abundant life which Christ offers.  Jesus said in John 4:14: “…but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” Instead of spending your life- your energy and resources in building empires, if only the one who finds eternal life in Christ would invest himself in His Kingdom and be His witness! That’s the right pursuit that will surely bring dividends in eternity!

Pardon: When the one who has realised his sin and his wicked ways willingly repents and seeks the Lord, He will abundantly pardon! God’s compassion and mercy extends to the one who truly repents and forsakes his unrighteous ways and thoughts and turns to the Lord (Vs.7).  Man has to forsake his way of thinking in getting right with God- for God’s ways and thoughts- His standards are much higher than man’s (Vs.8,9). The only way God has given man to be saved is through Christ: “Jesus is the only one who can save people. His name is the only power in the world that has been given to save anyone. We must be saved through him!”[Acts 4:12 ERV]. Seek the Lord while there is yet time before your time on earth ends or He comes again to receive His elect.

Promise: Just as God said He would make an everlasting covenant with them (V.3), He has made a New Covenant through Christ Jesus for us- the new life through His blood! Hebrews 13:20 says, “Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead …..through the blood of the eternal covenant…” God promises His Word will accomplish all that He sends it to do!(V11). All His promises to His children are Yes and Amen in Christ Jesus to the glory of His name! Then comes the next promise that we can look forward to – a life of joy and peace in the new heavens and earth, when everything even creation will be renewed! What joy will fill our hearts then!

Dear friend, if you haven’t sought for what really satisfies, its time to come to Christ who only can fill your emptiness and give you abundant life in Him. To the one who has trusted Him, see if your life is in the right pursuit of building His Kingdom and being His witness- even if you are doing a secular job. Let our hope be in the promise of living in His everlasting Kingdom with joy!

The Invitation: And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.  (Revelation 22:17)
